Symbolism of Owls
Owls have held significant symbolic meanings across different cultures and religions:
In ancient Greek mythology, the owl was sacred to Athena, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge. Owls were seen as emblems of intelligence and vigilance. In Native American cultures, owls were often associated with wisdom, foresight, and the ability to see beyond deception. They were considered spiritual messengers and guides. In Hinduism, the owl is considered a vehicle of the goddess Lakshmi, representing fertility and prosperity. In some Christian traditions, owls were seen as symbols of darkness, evil, and desolation, likely due to their nocturnal habits and haunting calls. Art Nouveau Influence
The Keren Kopal Owls trinket boxes exhibit elements of the Art Nouveau style, which emerged in the late 19th century. Art Nouveau was characterized by organic, naturalistic designs inspired by the natural world, including flora and fauna motifs. The intricate enamel work and crystal embellishments on these owl boxes evoke the whimsical and ornate aesthetics of Art Nouveau.
